During this week (4th-6th of May) members of SEGUL were excited to take part in the 7th World Seabird Twitter Conference, or #WSTC7.
We have compiled a summary of our presentations below, including research from Lucía Martín López, Finn McCully, Rhiannon Austin, Sophie Bennett and a special presentation by Lila Buckingham publishing @TheSeabirdGroup's EDI action plan. Sophie Bennet and Finn McCully, did also performed a key role at this conference by being the chair for five of the programmed sessions, Tracking and Distribution 1 #DistSesh1, Energetics & Physiology #EnerSesh, Contaminant and Marine Debris 2 #ContSesh2, Conservation Biology 2 #ConsSesh2 and Light Pollution #LightSesh.
First, Lucía Martín López who works on the Seabird Sound project shared her on-going post-doc research, investigating if #albatross movements are affected by experienced infrasound:
Lila Buckingaham, recently co-opted officer of the @TheSeabirdGroup EDI, presented the @TheSeabirdGroup's EDI action plan!
Next, Sophie Bennet PhD student with @UKCEHseabirds & @SEG_UL presented some of her recent work "Attendance at the colony in the non-breeding season affects breeding timing and success in common guillemots"
The penultimate SEGUL presentation was by PhD student Finn McCully. titled “Personality and parenthood: intrinsic behavioural differences and their impact on parental care coordination in wandering albatrosses"
Finally, post-doc Rhiannon Austin shared her amazingly titled work: "Pirates of the Caribbean lend a helping hand to hotspot identification and regional conservation in the Caribbean"
SEGUL extend their thanks to the #WSTC7 organising committee for this fantastic opportunity to share our research online.
